Paras Khadka, the Secretary of the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN), is currently visiting the United States, where he engaged with Nepali cricket supporters in Irving, Texas.
During his visit, organized by Nepali Society Texas and the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Khadka encouraged support for the Nepali cricket team ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in America next June.
The gathering was successful in raising approximately 1.5 million Nepalese rupees to support grassroots cricket development in Nepal. Attendees also participated in an auction featuring bats and jerseys signed by Nepali cricket team members.
There was excitement during the auction, with a bat autographed by the players selling for $450, and Captain Rohit Paudel’s jersey fetching $500 in bids.
Several notable figures from Nepal’s sports scene, including former national cricket player Prithu Baskota and ex-national football player Pralay Rajbhandari, were present at the event. Khadka shared that the Nepali team is scheduled to arrive in Florida on May 5. Following three practice matches against local teams in the West Indies, they will undergo intensive training in Houston, Texas.
One of the auction’s highlights was when Crystal Kandel of Dallas secured Dipendra Singh Airy’s jersey for $1,050.
With ticket pre-booking for the T20 World Cup opening last month, there is significant anticipation among Nepalese supporters for the team’s first match on June 4 against the Netherlands in Dallas.
